    My Altec starter kit

so today i finally received the last of the 846b parts i bought off ebay. i now have
    2 416Zs,
    2 806 8as(1 works, sounds great,but both need dphrams) w 811s,
    2 846b x overs,
    plus 2 model 14 x overs and
mr?? horns wth 902 somethings from a model 14.
    also in this spree i have 2 902 8as w 811s.
now what? what i want is an A7 set.
811s would be ok in the living room but would there be anything to gain in stacking a 2 pair w drivers? is there any SPL gain if i wanted to entertain a medium hall?
i guess i'll end up ebaying some of this stuff. lord knows i don't want to end up a hoarder.

i'm definately keeping the mod 14 mantas w 902s they just sound great. i'll find somthing to do with them.
guess till i get a pair of boxes i'll be "all hat and no cattle"

    thanks cd
i think my anology was a bit off. before i got my stuff. i was all hat no cattle. now till i get boxes, im' all cattle no corral.
so what is the verdict on stacking a pair of 811s? also would two different model drivers per side be conflicting?

I have found that less is more. Trust me one 811 and one 416 per side is capable of severely reducing your ability to hear good the rest of your life with prolonged exposure. Overkill is only good in cubic inches. Plus I can just picture the nightmare of trying to dial all that in and trying to find the problem when you hear it. And I am pretty confident you will hear something your not happy with. It may be subtle or even more but trying to figure out what it is with multiple horns and mismatched woofers all going would just be draining. Tossing a couple of boxes together and throwing in some drivers and crossovers unless you stick to exactly what the factory built is gonna result in a less than perfected sound and then you get to deal with creating your own crossovers...Yaayyy...yeah that was sarcasm.. and if your not smarter than einstein or a 30 year electrical engineer....yeah loads of fun. NOT!!!

I?ve periodically posted about my success stacking 511s with two different drivers to create a pseudo- large format driven multi-cell except with a superior HF and a ?tighter? pattern control [especially vertically] to a lower frequency, so see no reason why stacking 811s with the 902 running ?full? and the other rolled off up high won?t work.

FWIW, Cal has been pleased with his stacked 511_811 combo.

All that said, if you will be sitting fairly close, then the extra pattern control might narrow up the 'sweet spot' too much.

    thanks gm
pseudo- large format driven multi-cell < this is kinda what i'm trying to acomplish. more than likely i would just use a single 511 at home
